You’re Alberta Bound

Thinking about extending your trip past our wedding weekend? The Alberta Rocky Mountains host some of the best stops in North America. We wanted to share a few of our favourite hotel stays and activities around Calgary, Canmore + Banff to make the most of your visit to the mountains.

Our wedding weekend will take place in the Kananaskis area of Alberta from August 29th - August 31st. If you choose to extend your stay before or after, we recommend choosing Canmore, Banff or even time in Calgary or British Columbia. We promise that you will see all that the Pomeroy Hotel and the surrounding region has to offer in your time spent with us during the wedding.

We recommend securing your hotel + car reservations promptly as the long weekend tends to increase traffic in the province.

From the Calgary airport or downtown Calgary area you can expect roughly 1.5 hours to Canmore and Banff area. If you are using the Pomeroy Hotel as a starting point, it is about 1 hour to Banff or 30 minutes to Canmore. Please note, you will require a Parks Pass purchase if you are driving to the Kananaskis area and the Banff area. Canmore does not require a Parks Pass purchase.

Purchase your Kananaskis Pass (approx. $15/day per vehicle)

Purchase your Banff Park Pass (approx. $25/day per vehicle)

Where to Stay

Canmore, Banff + Beyond -

The Malcolm Hotel Canmore -

Situated just off of main street Canmore, The Malcolm Hotel is a long-standing favourite of travellers exploring the Canmore area. The rooftop pool is among one of it’s best amenities.

MTN House by BaseCamp Canmore -

MTN House is a new addition to the outer Canmore area and is just off the highway for easy access. The restaurant on-site, Rhythm & Howl has an iconic Happy Hour as well as a European inspired breakfast offering that is a crowd favourite. Use code LOVEBIRDS for any Basecamp property for additional savings.

Fairmont Banff Springs -

Perhaps one of the most iconic hotels in North America, the Banff Springs hotel is a must-see if you are spending additional time in the Banff area. This Scottish baronial castle offers unparalleled mountain views alongside the historical charm. Don’t forget to stop in for a cocktail at the Rundle Bar - it is a must-do even for an afternoon pop-in. Please note, a Banff Parks Pass is required to enjoy your time in Banff.

Otter Hotel Banff-

The recently renovated Otter is where the Banff Inn was once located. This cozy and charming lodge style hotel includes pour over coffee service (with milk preferences confirmed upon check-in). The on-site restaurants and cafes, Good Folk + Sudden Sally are filled with fabulous options - don’t forget to try the 7 Spice Chicken wings. The sister property, Canoe, is a wonderful choice for families.

Fairmont Lake Louise -

While Lake Louise is a must-see for most travellers, we must mention that The Fairmont Lake Louise is currently under renovation. We recommend staying in Banff and spending the day commuting in and out from Lake Louise, in lieu of staying on-site or choosing Yoho National Park as a similar feel to Moraine Lake / Lake Louise.

Emerald Lake Lodge

Yoho National Park -

A beautiful 1-hour drive from Banff, Emerald Lake Lodge in Yoho National Park is a gorgeous stay. This resort will offer a quiet and peaceful experience and is generally less busy than Banff or Canmore. Please note, a separate Yoho Parks Pass is required to enjoy your stay.

Calgary -

Fairmont Palliser -

Located in the heart of Downtown Calgary, the Fairmont Palliser offers a perfect jumping off-point to explore the charm of Stampede City. Walking distance to historic Stephen Avenue and Beltline / Victoria Park neighbourhood which are filled with some of Calgary’s best restaurants and bars.

Le Germain Hotel -

Just across the street from the Fairmont Palliser, the Le Germain is a family owned luxury boutique hotel with a friendly feel. Notably home of one of Calgary’s best restaurants, CHARCUT. Use code GERMAIN8990 for a discounted rate at any Le Germain or ALT Hotel properties.

Where to Eat & Shop

Canmore, Banff + Beyond -

Sauvage Canmore

Led by Chef Tracy Little, Sauvage is a forage-led dining experience like no other. Expect hyper local, farmed and foraged, tasting menus with wine and cocktails to complement. Chef Little was recently featured on Top Chef.

Stonewaters Canmore

The best shopping experience in the Mountains (in our humble opinion). From local goods to mountain souvenirs to artisan jewelry, Stonewaters has it all and more including an on-site record shop.

The Drake Inn Canmore

If you are looking for the best dive bar in Canmore, you’ve found it. Home to live music and an eccentric crowd, everyone is welcome at The Drake.

Lupo Banff

Ranked 6th in Canada's 100 Best Top 10 New Restaurants in Canada, Lupo is an Italian dining experience in the heart of Banff. After a day of hiking, hand-made pasta is tough to beat.

Bluebird Woodfired Steakhouse Banff

If you consider prime-rib a comfort food, then Bluebird is for you. Quaint and cozy with an expansive patio, Bluebird pairs elevated steakhouse staples with boozy cocktails and beautiful scenery. The keylime pie is unforgettable.

Sky Bistro Banff

Dine on top of a mountain - literally. Panoramic venue atop the Banff Gondola's 7,510-ft. summit station serving high-end Canadian cuisine. The views alone are worth the trek. Reservations are highly recommended.

Rose & Crown Banff

A core institution of Banff, you can find live music and high vibes at the Rose & Crown. Whether you are sipping a beer at a booth, playing pool or jumping on the dance floor, R&C is the liveliest night stop in this mountain town.

Calgary -

Alberta Boot Co.

Looking for a Calgary Western Wear experience? Alberta Boot offers custom and ready-made cowboy boots and apparel. Located Downtown with parking on-site, this boot shop is perfect for guests looking for a history lesson and shopping experience in one.

Major Tom

Located 40 Floors Up with sweeping views of Calgary, Major Tom boasts fine bites and curated cocktails. Our personal favourite are the Donuts paired with their exceptional martini or indulge in the steak frites.

Palomino Smokehouse

Our list wouldn’t be complete without our favourite local watering hole. The Palomino has the best BBQ in town and is filled wall-to-wall with posters, knick knacks and chaotic band art. Live music occurs almost nightly - we recommend the Fat Ass Platter to ensure you try everything from the smokehouse.
